Telegram Stars Payment Failed? Causes and Fixes

Updated: October 2026 · By the TeleCrow team · Facts checked 16 October 2026

Most failed Telegram Stars payments happen at one of two points: buying the Stars (an app-store or card problem) or paying the bot (an expired, changed or blocked order). This page shows how to tell which one you hit and how to fix it, what each message from a TeleCrow bot means, and how to get your Stars back when an order goes wrong. The last section is for sellers whose buyers can't pay.

Quick fixes to try first

  1. Update Telegram. Stars payments need a recent version of the app. Old versions may not open the payment window at all.
  2. Check where it failed. If the error appeared while you were buying Stars, go to the next section. If you had enough Stars and the bot refused, see the bot messages table.
  3. Tap Buy again in the bot. Payment windows expire, and prices can change. A fresh tap creates a fresh order.
  4. Pay from your own account. A payment link made for someone else won't work for you. Open the bot yourself and tap Buy.
  5. Check your Stars balance. In Telegram, open Settings › My Stars. If the Stars were taken, the transaction is listed there.

Problems buying Stars in Telegram

When you buy Stars inside the iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google processes the payment, not Telegram and not the seller. So most "can't buy Stars" errors come from the store:

If the store keeps refusing, Telegram also sells Stars through @PremiumBot, and Telegram's Fragment site sells Stars packs for yourself or as a gift (fragment.com/stars). Prices on these routes can differ from the app.

Keep in mind that Telegram's Stars terms treat Stars purchases as final: Telegram doesn't refund Stars you bought by mistake. A refund for something you bought with Stars is a different matter, covered below.

Problems paying a bot with Stars

When you tap the Stars button in a bot, Telegram opens a payment window. Just before taking your Stars, Telegram asks the bot to confirm the order. If the bot says no, the payment stops and no Stars are taken. Telegram shows the bot's reason in the payment window. Common reasons:

Most of these go away if you go back to the bot and tap Buy again.

Was I charged? Refunds and /paysupport

After a successful payment, a TeleCrow bot sends your item (or your join link) and a receipt like "🧾 Order TC-1042 · 500 Stars. Problem with your order? Send /paysupport". If you have the receipt, you paid. If you don't, check Settings › My Stars in Telegram for the transaction.

If something went wrong after you paid:

Telegram requires every bot that takes Stars to answer /paysupport. If a seller refuses a refund you believe is fair, Telegram's Stars terms say you can report it with the transaction ID from your Stars settings. Before buying from a seller you don't know, read how to check if a Telegram seller is legit.

For sellers: why buyers can't pay

If buyers tell you Stars doesn't work in your TeleCrow bot, open the bot's Telegram Stars panel. The status pill and the alerts there usually show the cause:

Also check that the bot is running: a stopped bot can't confirm orders. For other bot problems, see Telegram bot not responding. To prove the whole path works, run the 1-Star test described in how to accept Telegram Stars in your bot, and to explain prices to buyers, share Telegram Stars to USD.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my Telegram Stars payment fail?

Either the purchase of Stars failed in the App Store or Google Play (usually a payment-method or country problem), or the bot refused the order because it expired, the price changed or the item sold out. If the bot refused, no Stars were taken; tap Buy again.

Are Telegram Stars payments safe?

The payment runs inside Telegram, so you don't share card details with the seller. Bots that take Stars must answer /paysupport, and a TeleCrow bot refunds automatically if an item can't be delivered. As with any purchase, check the seller before you pay.

Can I get a refund for Telegram Stars?

Telegram doesn't refund Stars bought by mistake. For something you bought with Stars, send /paysupport in the seller's bot. In a TeleCrow bot, an unanswered request is refunded after 3 days unless the seller has switched automatic refunds off.

Why does the bot say an item can't be paid in Stars?

Its Stars price is above the bot's limit for a single Stars payment, which is 25,000 Stars in TeleCrow bots. You can usually still pay from your balance in the bot, or ask the seller.
